OVERVIEW: Nestled in the scenic Pocono Mountains, Camelback Lodge is an eight-story modern-designed mountain hotel with 453 guest suites. Features include Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark, Arcadia Adventures, multiple dining venues, a state-of-the-art fitness center and over 20,000 square feet of flexible conference, meeting and special event space.

LOCATION: Camelback Lodge is located at Camelback Resort in the Pocono Mountains, just 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Philadelphia.

GUESTROOMS: Modern mountain décor with comfortable furnishings is the style of the 453 expansive guest suites and 13 multi-bedroom suite configurations with the largest suite accommodating 14 guests. SUITES

• The Suites options include: a Double Queen Suite, the standard room style with two queen beds and one queen sleeper sofa sleeping up to six guests; and the King or Queen Bunk Suite, with two bunk beds, one king or queen bed and one queen sofa sleeper which sleeps up to eight guests and is ideal for families with kids. The bunk beds are in a different area with a separate TV. Handicap options are available.

ONE-BEDROOM

• A perfect choice for guests looking for a separate bedroom during their stay, one-bedroom options include the One-Bedroom Suite, which sleeps up to six, and the One-Bedroom Family Suite, which sleeps up to eight. Each offers a master bedroom with a king bed and private bathroom. The main living area includes one queen sleeper sofa, one queen murphy bed or two queen beds and an additional bathroom.

TWO-BEDROOM

• The Two-Bedroom Suites, Lofts and Condo have eight configurations including a master bedroom with a king or queen bed and private bathroom, plus an additional bedroom with two queen beds and a queen sofa sleeper and bathroom. The Lofts and Condo options include additional amenities such as bunk beds, a fireplace, deck and full kitchen. The two-bedroom options sleep six to 13 depending on the layout.

THREE-BEDROOM

• The Three-Bedroom Condos and Lofts have three layouts and can sleep eight to 14 guests. These condos include a master bedroom with a king bed and private bathroom, a second bedroom with two queen beds and a third bedroom with a king or two queen beds, a second bathroom and a queen sleeper sofa. The main living area has a third bathroom, a queen sleeper sofa and a full-sized kitchen with seating for up to six.

Graffiti Pizza: A New York graffiti-themed outlet, which is also available for in-room dining, features hand-tossed New York style pizzas, hot and cold sandwiches, salads and delicious appetizers to be enjoyed with draft beer and other beverages. La Calombe Coffee Shoppe & Bar: Open daily and situated just off the main lobby, serving La Colombe signature coffee, assorted pastries, and lunch sandwiches with an accompanying bar.

Sugar Shack: Visitors are tempted by gelato, ice cream, and many of your favorite toppings. Located off the arcade and open daily.

SHOPPING: Mountain Market is a one-stop souvenir shop that sells grab-and-go freshly made coffee, bagels, pastries and homemade desserts. To take home or to gift a friend or family, the shop has T-shirts, hoodies, hats and Camelback Resort remembrances.

The Wave Retail features great functional tropical souvenirs that are Aquatopia essentials – from sandals to sunblock to finding out how to safely store personal belongings in the Aquatopia lockers.

FITNESS CENTER: Located next to the Doggie Relief Area, the fitness center is open from 5 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Fitness equipment includes two treadmills, two ellipticals, two fitness bikes, yoga mats, weight bench, dumbbells, functional trainer machine and complimentary water.

Prehistoric Adventure Awaits at Camelbeach Outdoor Waterpark

TANNERSVILLE, Penn. – This summer, Camelback Resort and Camelbeach guests are in for an adventure of prehistoric proportions! Beginning Friday, June 27, guests will be greeted by a 35-foot-long Yangchuanosaurus and a host of other ancient dinosaurs at the highly anticipated “Dinobeach” at Camelbeach. Running through September 2, this unique display features 35 lifelike animatronic creatures, offering an immersive journey back in time throughout the waterpark and resort.

“Dinobeach” will be brought to life by Don Lessem, renowned advisor to director Stephen Spielberg for the iconic 1993 movie "Jurassic Park." Constructed by the expert team at DinoDon in Media, Penn., these animatronic dinosaurs are designed to move and make sounds, ensuring a thrilling and educational experience for guests. Under strict scientific supervision, these models are crafted with remarkable detail, making them safe and accurate representations of their ancient counterparts. The realistic roars and movements of these creatures provide great fun for families.

Camelbeach, Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor waterpark, recognized by USA Today and Newsweek magazine, seamlessly blends the thrill of waterslides with the excitement of a dinosaur adventure this summer. Waterpark enthusiasts can race down the recently debuted Rival Racer waterslide with eight lanes for competitive racing, while life-size dinosaurs loom nearby, adding an extra layer of excitement and wonder. Pocono Mountains Resort Celebrates 60 Years of Skiing

TANNERSVILLE, Pa. – Celebrating its 60^th anniversary with an exciting mix of new technology and forward-thinking, sustainable enhancements, Camelback Resort, the award-winning 560-acre Pocono Mountains resort known for its stellar lineup of snow sports, is ushering in its 2023-2024 ski season with a nod to the past and an eye on the future.

The perfect getaway for snow enthusiasts, boarders and skiers of all levels, the resort is located 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Philadelphia –– offering 39 trails spanning 166 acres, along with plenty of exhilarating family-friendly fun, such as snow tubing and terrain parks.

Highlights of the 2023-24 anniversary season include:

New High-Tech Perks

The resort’s 60^th winter season gets underway with an array of high-tech perks, including integration of Amazon’s Just Walk Out technology that gives guests an effortless shopping experience at the resort’s Big Pocono On The Go providing a collection of grab-and-go offerings. Notably, Camelback is the nation’s first ski resort to offer Just Walk Out technology. The guest enters Big Pocono On The Go using their credit card or Camelback app at the entry gate. The technology detects what they take from or return to the shelves and creates a virtual shopping session. When the guest completes the shopping experience, they can leave the store without waiting in line. Their credit card gets charged for the items taken. Just Walk Out technology is made possible by artificial intelligence like computer vision and deep learning techniques, including generative AI, to accurately determine who took what in virtually any retail environment. All guests are encouraged to download the Camelback app to access the Just Walk Out technology-enabled store.

SkiLynx is also available on the resort app, enabling guests to live-track their total trails, miles and vertical feet, as well as find friends and view real-time lift wait times.

A Homage to History

A year-round adventure hub rising 2,100 feet above sea level, Camelback is celebrating 60 years of world-class skiing. The resort debuted its ski programs in 1963 and has made significant upgrades over the years. In celebration, Camelback will debut an expansive 60 x 8-foot mural created by Pennsylvania artist Evan Hughes – known for his bold, often surreal, cartoon-like, flat-color artwork – in the Thirsty Camel lounge.

Sustainable Upgrades

The resort’s current focus is sustainability as evidenced by new, cutting-edge snow depth technology that allows staff to easily determine if and where they need to make snow, in turn reducing the amount of water and hours of snowmaking. Camelback has also installed low-energy snowmaking equipment to reduce its energy usage by 25% and has incorporated a snowmaking system that returns melted snow to its source, Pocono Creek. Additionally, over the last five years, Camelback has upgraded all its grooming machines to Tier 4 emission engines, further limiting its carbon footprint.

Camelback Ski & Ride Academy

Expert ski and snowboard instruction is back at Camelback Resort at its Ski & Ride Academy for learners starting at age 4 and levels from beginner to advanced. Children’s Lessons for ages 4 to 12 will begin at Adventure Base Camp and run for 90 minutes. During the Family & Friends Beginner Lessons, beginner skiers ages 4 and up go to The Learning Center for one hour of lessons on the snow. Ski rentals are included in both the Children’s Lessons and Family & Friends Beginner Lessons when selecting the rental and lesson package.

New this year is the Multiweek Program for kids who have been on the snow at least once and want more time with an instructor to advance their skills. This four-week program includes three-hour sessions with a snack break. Students are grouped by age and ability and may switch groups as they progress. Lift tickets and rentals are not included with this program. Private lessons are also available.

New High-Speed Lift

Last year, the resort debuted Black Bear 6 – a new high-speed six-person, enclosed lift – replacing the smaller Sullivan Express. The new lift soars 667 vertical feet with an uphill capacity of 3,000 passengers per hour, an increase of 600 passengers per hour over the previous lift. The top drive lift has a fully enclosed storage facility for its 50 carriers. The resort’s next most recent lift – Sunbowl Express – was built in 2020.

Expanded Terrain Park

The terrain park is now located at Upper Moore’s Ramble, Oak Grove, Lower Moore’s Ramble and Rhododendron Glen and is serviced by the Glen lift. Recent enhancements include automations, new designs and a next-gen PistenBully Park Pro 400 for creating precise and uniform park builds. The park will open earlier in the season and be maintained, rebuilt and refreshed regularly throughout the winter.

Camelback’s Snow Tubing Park

Boasting one of the country’s largest snow tubing parks, Camelback offers more than 40 snow tubing lanes, day and night. The all-lit nighttime, after-dark experience, Galactic Tubing, is back and complete with music, disco lighting, up to 44 lightning-fast lanes and two magic carpet lifts. Snow tubing is complimentary Monday through Friday on non-holidays with purchase of an Unlimited or Value Season Pass.

So Much to Eat and Drink

Camelback Resort introduces two new eateries this year: Chuck’s Spud Shack serving all things French fries including Tex-Mex Loaded Fries, Philly Cheesesteak Fries, Truffle Parmesan Fries, and Crab Fries andRakuda Ramen. Rise & Grind Coffee by La Colombe is also a new addition on the mountain.

Other delicious dining options include the recently renovated Thirsty Camel Bar & Grille, an indoor/outdoor restaurant featuring local breweries and pub-style menu. Several food trucks are parked strategically for hungry snow buffs, including Tacos & Beer Truck offering street tacos and draft and Tap Bar for a refreshing beverage.

For a more upscale experience Berrelli’s Italian Chophouse, anItalian steakhouse, features an extensive wine list in a fine dining ambiance.

David Makarsky to Take Charge of Year-Round Poconos Resort

TANNERSVILLE, Penn. – Camelback Resort, a year-round recreational destination nestled in the Pocono Mountains managed by KSL Resorts, has named David Makarsky its new managing director. In his new position, Makarsky takes over all management for the 560-acre resort – an expansive retreat offering a full range of indoor and outdoor activities and adventures from world class skiing to Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor waterpark.

According to Kit Pappas, vice president for KSL Resorts, Makarsky is a seasoned hospitality industry executive with a vast range of industry experience and is well equipped for his new role.

“David is a true leader with an inspired, enthusiastic management style and an entrepreneurial spirit. His vision and forward-thinking approach will serve him well at Camelback as we continue to provide unprecedented amenities and services to our guests,” Pappas said. “With deep knowledge in many facets of the hospitality industry, his many years of experience will also be invaluable to the smooth operations and growth of Camelback and its many onsite amenities.”

In his new position, Makarsky directs day-to-day operations of the resort’s many adventures – from skiing, snowboarding and snowtubing to zip lining, a mountain coaster to award-winning Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark and Pennsylvania’s largest outdoor waterpark, Camelbeach. He also oversees guest experiences for the 453 guest suites Camelback Lodge and over 15 dining outlets.

Prior to joining Camelback Resort, Makarsky was chief operating officer at Wright Investments, overseeing and driving the performance and portfolio of 19 full- and select-service hotels. Additionally, he has served as chief operating officer at multiple hotel companies, including Gold Key/PHR Hotels and Resorts and Crestline Hotels and Resorts as well as served as senior vice president of operations for B.F. Saul Company Hospitality Group. With a hospitality career spanning nearly 40 years, he began his career as general manager of The Pier House, a 300-seat restaurant in Cocoa Beach, Florida.

An active community leader, Makarsky has served on multiple boards throughout his career, including the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce, St. Mary of the Mills School, Virginia Beach Hotel Association, Virginia Tech’s Hospitality and Tourism Management Advisory Council, Tidewater Community College’s Hospitality Advisory Council and Catholic Charities of West Tennessee.

He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University’s School of Hotel Administration.

Cesar’s 25 years of hospitality experience includes starting out as a dishwasher in Ocean City, N.J., at 13 years old to owning and creating multiple restaurant concepts to managing multiple dining outlets at prestigious resorts.

With a legacy of teaching ski lessons to generations of families over the past 61 years, Camelback Resort continues to inspire a passion for winter sports among skiers of all ages by introducing new adult, senior and youth classes at its Ski & Ride Academy. For adults 18 and over with a skill level of advanced beginner and up, two-hour group lessons are available, allowing participants to build or refine skills in a group with similar abilities. These customized classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. during January and February 2025 ranging from $225 to $250 for four sessions. Special two-hour Senior Clinics are offered on Wednesdays in January and February. Hospitality Industry Awards Presented at Annual Celebration in New York City

TANNERSVILLE, Penn. – Earning recognition in the digital marketing category, Camelback Resort – a top year-round recreational destination nestled in the Pocono Mountains – was lauded with two 2023 Adrian Awards by the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) at the organization’s 67^th annual awards celebration on February 13 at the New York Marriott Marquis.

Each year, the HSMAI awards recognize exceptional sales, marketing, revenue optimization and distribution leaders in hospitality, travel and tourism organizations for their achievements during the preceding 18 months. At Camelback’s first ever Rally on the Mountain and in partnership with Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson, bike fans will be ooh-ing and ahh-ing at the lineup of pristine machines! There will be a “loudest pipes” contest, and the winner will receive a Pocono Mountain Harley Davidson gift card. Live music will be provided by Ramones’ tribute band The Cretins and Gun Metal Gray playing rock ‘n roll classics. Food trucks will be on-site to curb Harley-sized appetites. Rally on the Mountain will be located in Lot 8 of Camelback Adventures.

After Dark Adventures

This hilarious dogs-in-costumes event is the resort’s third annual Howl O’Ween Doggie Parade. It starts at Camelback Adventures and goes to Trail’s End, then back to the Mountain Coaster lawn for the awards ceremony. Dog owners should feel free to wear their favorite costumes too, but the prizes go to the pets that deserve Bad to the Bone, Celebri’dog, Owner/Pet Look-a-like, DIY and Best in Show special kudos. Lot 8 at Camelback will be the place for pet-centric vendors to sell all kinds of special pet treats and accessories for parade participants.

Ninth Annual Ullr Fest

Saturday, November 11, from 4 to 10 p.m.

This celebrated event is the time for snow sports lovers to summon Ullr, the Norse God of skiing and snow. It’s a coming-of-the-new-season festival filled with delicious food and beverages, ice and wood carving demonstrations, ski decorating, fireworks and more – ending with a soaring bonfire to ensure the good favor of Ullr and a snow-filled winter.

MCLEAN, Va. – The Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International (HSMAI) has selected Theresa Lutz, vice president of marketing at Camelback Resort, as one of its “Top 25 Extraordinary Minds” for 2024. This is the 22nd year HSMAI has compiled the list, which annually recognizes exemplary achievement and leadership in hospitality sales, marketing, revenue optimization and distribution. Lutz will join an exclusive list when she is honored by HSMAI at a reception in New York City on February 18, 2025.

We are so pleased with our stay! Katrina at the front desk was SO HELPFUL and kind. The exceptional professionalism did not stop there. From Fernando in the restaurant staff to Diana, Jill, NuNU at the VIP area near the wavepool – all were exceptional. Our son has autism and they made sure he was taken care. The rooms were clean and very spacious. All the restaurants associated with the hotel are awesome and the waitstaff were very loving to our son. We geared off from Great Wolf because we were trying to find something a bit more economical that had some things for adults as well. This was the best decision! The hotel is beautiful and trendy looking inside. Our room had a fireplace and gorgeous view of the mountains. The breakfast buffet has excellent food both healthy and splurge worthy. There are several restaurants attached that we have also enjoyed. The coffee bar is great too! We will be back! Thanks for the Mother’s Day flowers as well!

Son’s 10th Birthday Getaway!

“My husband and I took my son and three of his friends to celebrate his birthday at Camelback Lodge and we all had a great time! We arrive Saturday 4 pm, check in was easy and took 5 mins.First thing we did was to get a tubing slot time as we wanted to the Galactic Snow Tubing. We got a 6 -9 pm slot which worked out perfectly as it gave us some time to have dinner with pizza before going. FYI – pizza is pretty good.

We took shuttle from resort to tubing site and took about 5 minutes. We all had so much fun going down the hill with colored lights. We were there little over an hour and were ready to go indoors and hit the water park. Kids had a blast at water park while my husband and I stayed in the adult section bar and enjoyed some cocktails and watched football. Boys hit every slide and was done with water park after 2 ½ hours. We quickly went up to rooms, showered and hit the arcades 10 – 12 midnight.

The following day, Sunday, we had a quick breakfast in the cafe and did Laser Tag and the Rope Course and done by 12 noon. Overall, we all had a great time! The resort was at full capacity but it never felt as it was overcrowded from tubing to water park and other activities. I would highly recommend coming here and all you really need is an overnight stay if your not skiing.”

He had a little trouble with the walk up to the zip line. The guys at the top were telling us to take our time and rest as often as we needed. When we got to the top, he was a little scared, they talked to him and he stepped off the platform, he LOVED it. When we got to the bottom, they were wonderful. 4,000 feet of family fun!
This review is for the 4000′ zipline experience. It was a great family experience for mom, dad, and teen girl to share. Best part (for mom): once you sign in at the basecamp and get buckled into your gear, they bus you to the mountaintop release point, where happy and helpful staff secure you and your harness into the system. No heavy lifting required. Remember to smile for the camera when you get to the bottom.
