Camelback Resort Celebrates 60 Years of Skiing

IRVINE, Calif. – KSL Resorts, which manages world-class destination resorts, hotels and high adventure experiences such as the Pocono Mountains’ Blue Mountain Resort in Palmerton, Penn., and Camelback Resort in Tannersville, Penn., has introduced significant capital improvements at both year-round resorts in time for the 2023-2024 winter season, including new, state-of-the-art snowmaking equipment along with a slew of sustainable initiatives.

Home to Pennsylvania's highest vertical – at 1,082 feet – in the Pocono Mountains, Blue Mountain Resort features 171 acres of varied and challenging terrain as well as some of the longest runs in the state. Celebrating 60 years of skiing, Camelback Resort offers 39 trails spanning 166 acres for unsurpassed skiing, snowboarding and snowtubing. Highlights of the recent enhancements at the resorts include:

Allowing more trails to open with fresh snow at the start of the season, Blue Mountain Resort has installed top-of-the-line snowmaking technology, including 79 TechnoAlpin TL8 stick guns and 26 TechnoAlpin fan guns (all fully automated) and has replaced approximately 20,000 feet of airline and waterline piping used for snowmaking. This new equipment will provide more efficient snowmaking capabilities and improved snow quality, allowing for an earlier start of the snowtubing season as well. The popular Trails End run – serviced by all lifts – will be renamed Barb’s Way in honor of the resort’s former owner, Barb Green. Also receiving upgrades are 103 old, high-pressure sodium lights being replaced with new LED lights on Paradise, Central Park, Barb’s Way, Shuttle and Burma Road. With the recently installed ultra-high-speed Main Street Express lift, connectivity between the Valley Lodge and the Summit Lodge is now vastly improved, as is access to the terrain on the western part of the mountain.

Celebrating 60 years of world-class skiing,Camelback Resort debuted its ski programs in 1963 and throughout the decades has made considerable investments and upgrades, including the new high-speed, six-person enclosed Black Bear 6 lift, which debuted last season. The resort’s current focus is sustainability, as evidenced by new, cutting-edge snow depth technology, which allows staff to easily determine if and where they need to make snow, reducing the amount of water and hours of snowmaking. Camelback has also installed low-energy snowmaking equipment to reduce its energy usage by 25% and incorporated a snowmaking system that returns melted snow to its source, the Pocono Creek. Additionally, over the last five years, Camelback has upgraded all its grooming machines to Tier 4 emission engines, further limiting its carbon footprint.
