CAMELBEACH HOSTS ‘WORLD’S LARGEST SWIMMING LESSON’ TO BUILD WATER SAFETY AWARENESS

Pennsylvania’s biggest outdoor waterpark offers free swim lessons to children ages 1-14

Tannersville, Pa. (June 21, 2018) –  Camelbeach Mountain Waterpark, Pennsylvania’s biggest outdoor waterpark, along with the nation’s top water safety and training organizations, presented The World's Largest Swimming Lesson™ (WLSL) on Thursday, June 21, 2018. This initiative seeks to build awareness about the vital importance of teaching children to swim; helping to reduce the risk of drowning.

Fifty event participants, ranging in ages from 16 months to 17 years old, were evaluated before receiving a free 60-minute swim lesson that included various challenges based on each swimmer’s skill level. They were also shown a water safety video before beginning their lessons in Camelbeach’s Olympic-sized pool.

“A staggering number of children die each year as a result of drowning. Safety is our number one priority at Camelback, and by offering this free swim lesson, we hope to both bring awareness to the issue and help equip our guests with a potentially life-saving skill,” said Ame Cameron, VP of Sales & Marketing at Camelback Resort.

Swimming is a vital tool to prevent drowning, the second leading cause of unintended, injury-related death for U.S. children ages 1-14. Research shows that risk of drowning can be reduced by 88 percent if children participate in formal swimming lessons between the ages of 1-4, yet a survey conducted by the American Red Cross in 2014 found that more than half of Americans (54 percent) either can't swim or don't have basic swimming skills. The mission of WLSL is to change this statistic.

Camelbeach hosts World's Largest Swimming Lesson

Each year, waterparks, pools and other aquatic facilities around the globe host local WLSL lessons in an attempt to deliver the message that Swimming Lessons Save Lives™! The WLSL event serves as a platform to help professionals in the global aquatics industry work together to build awareness about the fundamental importance of teaching children to swim to prevent drowning.

“It’s really great that Camelbeach offers this program that teaches kids how to swim, who may not have had the opportunity otherwise,” said Louise Bauer, whose daughter Kayla Exil was excited to dive right into the learning experience. “It teaches them water safety, and it gives me great peace of mind knowing Kayla can swim.”

Camelbeach is a vast departure from the typical concrete waterpark environment. Located in a picturesque setting at the base of Camelback Mountain only 90 minutes from New York City and two hours from Philadelphia, Camelbeach is packed with adrenaline-inducing slides and relaxing attractions for guests of all ages.

Camelbeach is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.  For more information and tickets, visit www.camelbeach.com.
